Painted Desert
The I25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe is a magical journey -- for me at least. Best at sunset, when the high desert dunes cast incredible shadows, and the sun sets flamingo pink..."a color at a time. The hills put on their blankets. The hawk and crow were done. And as I said softly in the twilight. See you tomorrow sun..." not my words, but I couldn't have said it as well. Six richly colored, and textured, strands -- two of golden freshwater pearls, two bronze freshwater strands, one silver freshwater strand, and one strand of 4mm jade. Luscious! The freeform Abalone pendant is set in Sterling Silver, and accented with an 8mm Baltic Amber cabochon. The closure on the necklace is entirely hand-made and consists of Copper and Sterling caps, leading to concho like Sterling Silver disc links, finishing with a 3/4" Sterling Silver hook.

Painted Sky I was visiting one of my favorite people in Colorado. We'd finished a busy day and settled down to watch the sun turn tangerine, and fall behind the mountains. The temperature dropped, and I built a roaring log fire in the chiminea. We wrapped ourselves in old camp blankets, drank hot chocolate and munched on amazing toffee from Enstrom's. Then, as my friend went to gather more wood for the fire, he gave a gasp. I looked up, to see a huge red patch leap across the sky. As the scarlet patch high kicked it's way across the horizon, another patch started to form and spiked into the sky. From behind the mountains a blue/green glow appeared covering the whole of the horizon. Yet another crimson spire pirouetted upwards into the heavens. All around the sky was a vivid canvas for all the world to see. Aurora Borealis! Glorious, Fiery, Natural Rock Opal, set in Sterling Silver and surrounded by 21 x 4mm pink and green Tourmalines.
