Beach Treasure Mmmmmm beach combing in the Caribbean ... taking ferries from island to island ... traveling light with just a backpack ... no worries about lost luggage...or what to wear ... I had four pairs of shorts, three T-shirts, one bikini and a big floppy sun hat ... if I didn't have the right attire ... I didn't go ... Ruby Fruit Definitely not your average necklace. This necklace shows it's true colors when the light hits it and bounces off those ruby colored juice like droplets swathed around your neck. As if this wasnt enough ... I've added a really unusual pendant, an Orthoceras fossil.The setting is cut in the form of a free flowing sterling silver shape, and the orthoceras is held firmly in place by two sterling wires. Eastern Promise The word turquoise means "Turkish stone"... so called because the trade route to Europe came via Turkey. The best quality turquoise is found in northeast Persia. Turquoise graced the necks of Pharaohs and Cleopatra, it was she who ground-up this gemstone for eye paint. Tutankhamen's tomb was filled with examples of turquoise inlay, beads, sculpture, and slabs used in everything from jewellery and furniture to the great sarcophagus. This gorgeous necklace measures 18" inches long and is made of slices of stunning Persian turquoise, interspersed with pale blue Arizona nuggets. Chimesa High desert gardening makes xeriscaping a hot topic amongst all my neighbors. But at sunset, as I sit on my porch, and look out over the mesa, I wonder if the search for the ideal 'desert lawn' is what we should have in mind as we head for the hills. I believe the beauty of the desert lies in the smatterings of plant color set against the mesa backdrop -- golden chimesa, rich blue berries on bottle green juniper trees, and pale blue/green sagebrush set against red rocks. The colors of the South West are wonderful. Particularly at sunset, and especially the golden chimesa. A blazingly beautiful honey amber pendant, set against four strands of green Tibetan turquoise. Miranda While attempting to find a Northern Passage to the East Indies Henry Hudson's log reported on June 15, 1608 that two of his company, Thomas Hill and Robert Raynor said that they had seen a mermaid, their description read: "From the Navill upward, her backe and breasts were like a woman's ... her skin was very white; and long haire hanging down behinde, of colour blacke; in her going downe they saw her tayle, which was like the tayle of a Porposse, and speckled like a Macrell". Kahlo From 1926 until her death, the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo created striking, often shocking, images that reflected her turbulent, passionate life. In "The Two Fridas" a ribbon of red transfused blood joins the two Fridas. Painted in 1939 at the time of her divorce from Diego, "The Two Fridas" is believed to be an expression of Frida's feelings at the time. This double self-portrait was the first large-scale work painted by Frida. Clear Quartz beads held together with knotted, red, organza ribbon, visible through the beads. Green Street I visited my friend, on Green Street, in the heart of Soho. Ultra Violet Momma Nature at her full blown best......translated into wearable art..... put your hands together for Momma N! Titanium Drusie cabochon. Fabulous flashes of purple, ultra violet and sapphire blue. This is amazing stuff, difficult to photograph...but amazing in the "flesh". The sterling setting is hand cut, and carved, to create textured flower petals which encase this gorgeous stone. Working on the principle of 'you can't have too much of a good thing', I went overboard, and added some exquisite 6mm faceted Amethyst beads to make the necklace. Spider Woman Now whether you relate this piece to the Diné creation story, or to Sonia Braga and "The Kiss of The Spider Woman", is entirely up to you. Maybe you're simply an arachnophile. This piece of Charoite took my breath away as I cut it -- out of the stone came a bold black spider. All that was left for me to do was create the web. Rare, Russian Charoite cabochon, set in a sterling silver "web". Cabochon measures approx. 1" long. Setting is approx. 1.5" x 1.5". The necklace is made of iridescent, faceted Canadian Labradorite, which sends out flashes of blue as you move. People will be riveted...did they see a flash, or didn't they? Beads measure 3mm x 5mm.
