Sea-Whizz

Ocean Jasper ... glorious stuff ... a riot of colorful swirls and waves. Found on the northwest coast of Madagascar this jasper is as exotic as it's homeland. In this bracelet I've used 1" squares of this wondrous stuff and linked them with tiny lime green Peridot beads. I've finished the bracelet with two tiny blue/green nuggets of turquoise and a handmade sterling closure.

Hot House Flowers

Whenever anybody asks me what I'd like for birthday, Valentines ... etc., I say "Heirloom Roses ... preferably the bush ... if you'll come over and plant it for me ... even better".

My favorite home in New Mexico had a conservatory in the center of the old adobe house -- I filled it with containers of heirloom roses ... it was a magical room ... filled with natural perfumes ... Momma Nature's calling card. I wish all roses were perfumed ... as they seemed to be when I was a child ...

Roses in the conservatory ... alluring little hand made glass beads ... each one has a green core and traps two tiny, perfect, pink roses ... it's difficult to be eye-catching and dainty at the same time ... this bracelet achieves the impossible. The lamp work glass beads are interspersed with tiny amethyst beads. The bracelet is finished with delicate new jade beads and a hand made sterling silver closure. Fragrant.

Paonia

Not far from the sophisticated ski resorts of Aspen and Telluride, and (my favorite) the unpretentious Crested Butte, is Paonia -- 'Land of Crystals and Cherries'.

Paonia, they tell me, was "invaded" by the Hippies in the 60's. Well, the invasion is over. The hippies have grown even mellower... some have conformed...some have planted cherry orchards -- organic of course...
The local cinema, "Paradiso", intersperses it's block-busters with great indie movies. Good expresso is an art form at the local coffee bars, and "Pizza My Heart" serves up the best in bands along with it's scrumptious pizzas, on Friday nights. Paonia, well worth a visit....west of Aspen, on Colorado highway 133.

When I first visited Paonia, I drove up, onto a mesa. I looked out to Mount Lamborn. It was snow covered and shimmering in the sun, framed by the bluest of sky. I've tried to echo that in this cuff.
Freeform Mother of Pearl cabochon, accompanied by two "Sleeping Beauty" cabochons. The cabochons are set on a heavy gauge sterling silver cuff. It's difficult to capture the iridescent shimmer of the central cabochon. It has flashes of pink, green and blue. Stunning! Fits small to medium wrist -- some 'give' in fit.

Boadicea

Bold, brave and beautiful! Wide hammered sterling silver cuff, set with a magnificent turquoise "spear head" cabochon from the Cerrillos mine in New Mexico. This cabochon is from my "secret stash" of wonderful vintage turquoise. Cerrillos turquoise was created and mined under unusual circumstances.  It is the only turquoise that formed at the base of a volcano.  A variety of colors developed from the minerals in the various volcanic host stones.  In fact, seventy-five colors have been identified, from tan to khaki-green to rich, blue-green to bright and light
colors. Marvelous stuff!

Green Dragon

Stunning 'Dragon Skin Turquoise'. No relation to 'Puff the Magic Dragon'. As if I would!

This is an absolutely enormous piece of turquoise (1 7/8" x 1 5/16"). It's set in sterling silver, surrounded with sterling beading and finished with a hand stamped design. The setting is mounted on a five shank sterling silver cuff. Magnificent! The sterling setting measures 21/4" x 1 7/8". The bracelet measures 2.5" across the wrist section. There is some "give" in the sizing but it's best suited to a medium or large wrist -- unless of course, you prefer to wear it higher up your arm. Shown with 'Enchanted Circle' necklace.

Lagoon

This bracelet may be all the weight training you'll ever need.

Six strands of sterling silver formed into an opulent cuff.
The cuff measures 3/4" at the narrowest portion, flaring to 2" to support the setting for the lagoon blue, turquoise cabochon. The blue, blue, blue cabochon measures 1 7/8" x 1.5", and is set in sterling and surrounded by sterling wire. There is some adjustment possible in the sizing, but this bracelet probably works best for a wrist measuring 6.5" - 7".
Rustic

This piece of turquoise is from my 'secret stash'. I bought my stash a few years ago from an old stone cutter. There is some wonderful stuff in there. Just wonderful!! This is New Mexican turquoise. Sky blue with heaps of terracotta matrix. It screamed for a rustic setting -- so that's what I gave it. A hand stamped sterling silver surround, set on a three shank sterling cuff -- in the old style. The turquoise cabochon measures 1.5" x 1.25" at widest points. The sterling setting measures 2" x 1.75" at widest points. There is some adjustment possible in the bracelet, but it probably works best for a 6.5" - 7" wrist.

Island Hopping

It's easy to get lost in daydreams when you're cutting turquoise. There are always "pictures" in the stones.
This gorgeous cabochon took me back to my back-packing trip in the Virgin Islands. It was paradise!
Of course I didn't realize it was going to be a back packing trip before I went. In fact my friend had arranged for me to be shown the island by an old friend of hers. "Oh, you'll love him", she told me. "He's a great guy". Hmmmm...well perhaps. He was certainly gallant enough to meet me at the airport. Unfortunately, he stopped, at his favorite restaurant to get "a large cocktail, to go", and his sole topic of conversation seemed to be serial killers -- well I suppose he is a criminal lawyer. However...early next morning, rather than take up his offer of a sailing trip, alone, I packed a back-pack and hopped a ferry to St. John...then on to St. Croix...from there to Virgin Gorda...and on to Tortola. I met the most wonderful people. Ate the best food. Saw the bluest seas & the whitest beaches. Met a couple who took me beach combing, and then invited me home for cinnamon coffee and hot banana muffins. Lovely memories. Island hopping...it's the only way to go!

Silver Tracks

It was early, on a quiet Sunday morning, I was driving down Route 66, headed for Bernalillo and the best pancakes & coffee in town. The Sandia Mountains to my right. Vivid, vibrant hot air balloons soaring overhead -- when panting along side came a huge locomotive, "Santa Fe Railroad" emblazoned across it's bulky body. I looked sideways and waved -- the dulcet tenor tones of the train whistle came floating back to me. Sunday morning -- New Mexico style.
